About
Preserve Franklin is a grassroots community organization formed in October 2014 to oppose the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). Preserve Franklin is a chapter of Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL), a not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 corporation.
Preserve Franklin’s work and goals include:
- Influencing public opinion against the abuse of eminent domain by Mountain Valley Pipeline
- Monthly community meetings to inform and engage landowners and residents
- Monthly presentations about environmental, safety, and economic issues to the Franklin County Board of Supervisors
- Contacts with state and federal government officials about the abuse of eminent domain
- Working with archaeologists, historians, and other professionals to identify sites along the proposed route that must be protected
- Working with affected property owners
- Fundraising to support these tasks and goals
